The R2R 4×4 Leaf Fall (formerly known as the Sand Rover) is a specialist Land Rover RRV designed to tackle leaf debris on tracks.
Widely used by Network Rail across various regions in the UK, including the Highland Line and areas with dense vegetation, this vehicle is available for Self-Drive (Dry Hire) or with an operator. You can also order it via the Network Rail COOM system.
R2R 4×4 Sand Vehicle Specifications
- Bidirectional Wire Brush Scrubbers: Mounted underneath the vehicle to clean leaves off the railhead
- Citrasolve ‘Orange Juice’ Applicator: Applies a citrus-based detergent to break down leaf contamination on the railhead
- Storage: Can be stored onboard with other attachments
- Nozzles: One nozzle per track, operated from the cab
- Tank: 100-litre tank with a 12-volt pump
- Sandite/Alleviate Applicator: Applied to the railhead to improve track adhesion, used on Network Rail MPVs & RHTTs
- Storage: Sandite/Alleviate is stored in tanks in the rear of the vehicle, refillable at the depot
- Application: Operated from the cab with specialist electric pumps
- Cameras: Fitted with two rear cameras to monitor the application
- Dry Sand Applicator: Uses sand bombs to apply dry sand to improve track traction
- In-Cab Controls: Easy operation from within the cab
- High Ground Clearance: Allows for easy on and off tracking
- LED Work Lights: Illuminate the area around the vehicle
- Rear Camera Monitoring: Tracks Sandite/Alleviate application to ensure accuracy
