Womens Day

Celebrating our Women in Rail

Today we proudly celebrate the achievements and contributions of women in our industry and beyond. 🙌

At Aquarius Rail and Permaquip, we’re delighted to recognise the incredible women in our small but mighty team — Kelly, Steph and Anna — who drive innovation and positive change every day.

In a traditionally male-dominated field, we’re committed to #AccelerateAction for gender equality, creating an inclusive and supportive environment where everyone can succeed.

Wishing you all a fantastic International Women’s Day! 🌿

What advice would you give to women starting out in roles like yours within the rail industry?

Be confident, stay curious, and never hesitate to speak up. Seek mentors, continuously develop your skills, and don’t be afraid to take on challenges. Surround yourself with people who uplift and support you, and always advocate for yourself and others.”

What are your thoughts on gender equality in the workplace?

“I believe whatever a man can do a woman can too in the workplace, sports and leadership positions, and International Women’s Day is another way this can be recognised. There’s no reason at all why a woman can’t thrive in an industry, no matter how male-dominated it may seem to be. I’ve tried to instil this in my daughters who are now both entering male-dominated industries (Music Business and Vehicle Mechanics)”

Anna Merrin, Sales & Compliance Administrator, Permaquip

How do you think we can encourage more women to pursue careers in rail, and what steps can we take to make it more inclusive?

Anna

“We should boost the presence of successful women in the Rail industry through social media, seeing women excel in a traditionally male dominated field such as engineering could make the industry more attractive for the next generation. We need more female role models visiting schools and colleges promoting opportunities in Rail and getting young women to explore careers they may not have otherwise been considering.”
